Are lottery tickets eligible for Gift Aid?

Unfortunately we cannot claim Gift Aid on funds raised through the lottery.

How does the Raise a smile Lottery work?

The Raise a smile Lottery uses lottery software licenced and regulated by the gambling commission. Players receive a unique randomly selected draw number(s) created by this software.

All lottery numbers paid in advance are entered into a computerised randomly selected weekly draw which normally takes place every Friday. Once a number is drawn it is removed from the draw therefore it is not possible for one number to win more than one prize. Prizes are allocated in the order of prize value.

What is the Raise a smile Lottery?

The Children's Hospice South West Raise a smile Lottery is a weekly lottery which helps to raise funds for Children's Hospice South West to provide hospice care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

It's one of the simplest ways of supporting CHSW regularly and each ticket gives you the chance of winning 1 of 15 prizes including the Bonus Rollover. Weekly draws normally takes place every Friday.

What are the lottery prizes?

The prize fund for each weekly draw is £1,425. This is made up of 14 guaranteed prizes totalling £1,225 and a £200 Bonus Rollover.

The 14 guaranteed weekly prizes are 1st prize: £1,000, 2nd prize £100 and 3rd prizes 2 x £25, 5 x £10, 5 x £5

The Bonus Rollover starts at £200 and if the prize is not won it rolls over by £200 each week until it reaches £10,000 when it is guaranteed that week.

Can anyone enter the Raise a smile Lottery?

Only persons aged 18 years or over and resident in Great Britain are eligible to play the Raise a smile Lottery including CHSW Staff and their families. However, CHSW staff who are directly involved with running the CHSW Raffle and CHSW Directors are not eligible to play.

How much do lottery tickets cost?

The cost of each Raise a smile Lottery ticket is £1. Tickets may be purchased on a regular play basis or a one-off play basis. There is a maximum purchase of five (5) ticket numbers per weekly draw. One-off play tickets purchased after Thursday 5pm will be entered in the following week's draw. You can join online here.

Which day does the Raise a smile Lottery draw take place?

A computerised randomly selected weekly draw takes place every Friday. Should the Friday fall on a bank holiday, the draw will be run the day before or the next working day.

What are the chances of winning a lottery prize?

Based on the 2022/2023 financial year, the odds of winning the guaranteed weekly 1st prize of £1,000 is 1 in 16,629. The chances of winning any of the other 14 prizes is 1 in 1,187.

Why is my lottery monthly Direct Debit payment £4.34?

The Raise a smile Lottery is a weekly draw so there are 52 draws per year, £52 divided by 12 months gives equal monthly payments of £4.34

How can I enter the Raise a smile Lottery?

Raise a smile Lottery tickets can be purchased through the Raise a smile Lottery website by regular play Direct Debit or by a one-off play debit card payment.

One-off play tickets are available from CHSW Charity Shops. One-off play tickets purchased after Thursday 5pm will be entered in the following week's draw.

How much of each £1 from the lottery is donated to the CHSW?

Between April 2022 and March 2023, an average of 56p in every £1 went directly to fund care for children, young people and families. 9p was used to fund prizes and 35p covered the cost of running the lottery and the recruitment of new players.

How do I know if I've won on the lottery and claim my prize?

Regular play winners will be notified by their preferred method of contact and a cheque sent by post. One-off play ticket winners will need to contact the Raise a smile Lottery team on 01271 313 311 where their tickets and details will be verified. Once verified a cheque is sent by post. Weekly winning numbers are also published on the Raise a smile Lottery website here.

Is there a time limit to claim my lottery prize?

Winners must verify their details and claim their prize within six (6) months of the draw date, after which CHSW will treat the prize as a donation.
